Foster Growth with Meaningful Connections
Our engagement director, Jonathan Strome, is passionate about connecting with people. He shares with us how effective customer engagement – in real life and online – is an essential part of your brand activation.
It’s clear that Jonathan Strome is community-minded. He grew up in Red Deer and is involved in many local ventures that foster deeper connections between people. In addition to his role at Symbra, Jonathan is a managing partner of his family’s business, Bower Ponds Recreation, and co-owns the Chedda’ Heads™ food truck with his dad and brother.
“I can’t imagine doing anything else but being an entrepreneur,” says Jonathan, “There is a culture of community around food trucks that is really unique, and at Bower Ponds people are deepening their connections with friends and family. I love being able to impact our community in ways that help it flourish.”
Jonathan encourages companies to ensure their customer engagement is meaningful both in-person and online. He explains, “If somebody messages your company on Facebook, it’s just as important for them that you get back to them as if they had left a voicemail or asked you a question in person.”
Often companies don’t know where to start when it comes to social media and they need help identifying which of their team members are best equipped to help.
Business owners may be tempted to completely outsource their social media activity, and it can be productive to hire experts to help you develop social media strategy and content for your social media platforms.
Though when it comes to the engagement piece of social media, Jonathan recommends that internal team members are the best choice.
If someone inside your organization is active on social media responding to comments, answering question and thanking people for their posts and likes, your company culture can come through more effectively.
“You still need to start with who you are, what you care about, why you exist and what you hope to accomplish. When you’re strategically making the right moves on your social media platforms, it’s going to have a tremendous impact.”
In the video, Jonathan shares examples of how Bower Ponds Recreation engages with people online. On social media platforms, potential customers see pictures, videos and event promotions that accurately represent what they will experience in-person and their digital conversations have the same welcoming, fun and light-hearted feel as face-to-face interactions.
Another huge value of social media is the ability to get instant feedback on the content you are putting out. The responses you receive from the community, whether positive or negative, enable you to learn very quickly and make adjustments in ways that traditional media doesn’t allow.
Ultimately, a key point that Jonathan makes is that the connections you make with your customers in real life and on social media are one in the same – the same rules apply in both scenarios, with just slightly different ways of engaging.
“You still need to start with who you are, what you care about, why you exist and what you hope to accomplish, “says Jonathan, “When you’re strategically making the right moves on your social media platforms, it’s going to have a tremendous impact.”
